Volume Shadow Copy - Can it be turned off

Posted by admin on Dec 18th, 2006

I have a strict system backup procedure in place where I backup to a USB hard drive every week night using Acronis TrueImage 10...I keep 10 or more backup images on that external drive to ensure I can restore my system to a recent point...With VSS and restore points, the backups get larger and larger each night...Do I need to use vssadmin and set the shadowstorage to zero for each drive to get rid of the extra space used?Greenwing

System restore is only selected for my C: drive...All of my other drives still have used VSS spaced allocated AND used...Greenwing "Richard Urban"

Turn System Restore off completely. This stops the service from loading.Even with System Restore off you will still have "system volume information" on each drive. But after a reboot, if you look inside this file you will see next to nothing there. Accept the fact that you can not eliminate this file from each drive.
