Unable to change the email program default to a different on

Bought a notebook that has Vista Basic installed on it. Was able to install Incredimail which is my email program, it works, but I can't make it the default email program , Vista won't let me. I went to explorer,then internet options, but was unable to change the default.I went to control panel, then to default programs to change it, but was unable to change it. Can everyone help me, with this problem? Swtpea

I cannot guarantee it will work for you , but is something to try as I had to resort to this to have the default changed for a program too.
