RAM Usage
Posted by admin on Feb 24th, 2007
in home premium....i have 1gb of ddr2 ram. my system is showing a constant usage of at least 50% of this simply when i am logged into windows and running windows mail and ie7.as i type this message my system is using 72% of 1gb of ram. why is this?ie7 seems to be using most, followed by several instances of svchost and then windows mail. is this normal? does it have something to do with aero and its demands?i am using on board graphics card. the cpu usage is very low (dual core amd)

Windows caches a lot of the core OS. It makes Windows seem a little faster and more responsive. When you open a program that needs that memory, it unloads things from the cache and uses that RAM. So, it's not actually unavailable. Dustin Harper dharper@vistarip.com vistarip.com "Rat_uk"

"Rat_uk" wrote This has been discussed many times in these Vista newsgroups. Vista does a much better job of managing and using memory. Unused memory is wasted memory. Rock [MSMVP User/Shell]

LOL reminds me of the Slowskys in the Comcast commercials. "Darn, I wish it wouldn't use so much RAM so everything would run really slow" ;) "Rock"

Nothing, it automatically kicks out cached programs from memory (and it doesn't page the ram cache, it just drops it) when you need that memory for active applications. The idea is to not waste resources when they are idle but to always give priority to active usage of those resources when they are needed by an active application or process. "Rat_uk"
