Newsreader screws up threads

Posted by admin on Jan 19th, 2007

First time I fired up the new Mail, downloaded some newsgroups, and lots of the threads were noncontiguous! Had the same issue under XP, but I could delete the downloaded headers and download again and would be ok for a while didn't work with Vista I have replies in the top level, with NO IDEA which thread the reply was for! I think the Windows Mail News reader is fine. However, it is fairly common knowledge that the Microsoft hosted newsgroups have their own set of issues. Even if you are accessing them from your own news server. Your news server can only download what is there.Having said that, I'm not so sure about your news server (host.jsc.nasa.gov). Looks like you may have an issue there too.Bottom line, I have not seen any problems with the Windows Mail news reader screwing up threads.Frank"Mike Matheny" <thomasdotmdotmathenyatnasadotgov>

This is the MS newsgroups, not NASA newsgroups! Mike Matheny "Frankster"

I always uncheck that. I may give it another whirl after my initial distaste for how almost EVERYTHING changed in Vista! Mike Matheny "Steve Cochran"

What is your point, Mike? There is no requirement to only read this newsgroup on msnews.microsoft.com. Other servers also carry this newsgroup, although probably not as well.Gary VanderMolen"Mike Matheny" <thomasdotmdotmathenyatnasadotgov>

the difference is in the frequency the host is updating the content. since it is ms news groups they are constantly up to date. using your isp or a different news server you have to depend on their update cycling to be up to date.mikeyhsd@comcast.net "Gary VanderMolen" What is your point, Mike? My point is it is the READER that screws up the thread order! Does anyone use a free reader they like? Mike Matheny "Gary VanderMolen"
