Network Issues with HP Universal Printer Driver for Vista, V
Posted by admin on Jul 9th, 2006
As some of you may know, HP recently released 3 new universal print drivers for Vista: for PCL 5, PCL 6 and PostScript. I've actually been in search of a solution, as I had been unable to use my recently purchased P2015dn network ready LaserJet from a new laptop with factory installed Vista. Supposedly this is HPs long term solution to cover many printers with one set of drivers. My problem is that although the driver appears to have installed without an issue, and I can find my printer on the network through the driver's search capability, when I go to print, it says the printer is no longer available. Has anyone had success in using HP's Universal Print Driver over a network? Any suggestions on a work around?

"Global T" <Global T@discussions.microsoft.com> The driver failed to install for me too. The universal printer appeared in the printers folder, but crashes explorer with a fault in colorui.dll if you attempt to accerr the printer properties.Seems truly halfbaked.Wait for better drivers. Ron

Thanks for the confirmation that I am not alone in my struggles with this printer driver although I'm surprised that I haven't seen more discussion about it.I am amazed however that HP isn't more on top of this. As Vista slowly increases market penetration, the inability to use many legacy HP printers with it, including models just released over the last year or so, is clearly going to negatively impact their market reputation."Ron Lowe" wrote:
