Yeah, that's interesting. I don't.Years ago everyone thought of all IPs (almost all) as being public. Today, due to the widespread use of NAT, not nearly so many public IPs are needed anymore. There's the old discussion about how your Microwave, electric fireplace, toaster, washer, etc., will need an IP. But today, even if so, it will be a private IP via NAT.Frank"DanS"

"DanS" Because IPv4 and the constant annoyance of NATs is starting to get on my and a lot of other people's nerves. When IPv6 starts to roll out people won't need to do anything. Also Windows Vista supports IPv6 over IPv4 to help get past NATs more information here:microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/teredo.mspx Paul Smith, Yeovil, UK. "DanS" because it doesn't really harm anyone and someone who does need to use it can just "plug in and go" Yes At the very least, it's in use on quite a few academic networks in the US and UK. I suspect a lot of other govt. type networks may use it too.

While I certainly agree with including support for IPV6 in the OS, the means by which MS chose to implement in Vista makes things needless more complicated than necessary. It should be an optional protocol/component installed. NOT one that's installed by default. Granted you can "disable" it (partially anyway), but it still mucks about anyway.
