Initial Start-up hanging?

sorry if this has been covered... hoping to find answers at 1am :( just bought a new HP Pavillion DV6000 with Vista Home preinstalled. Open package and instructions tell me to plug in and hit start button and wait (for up to 1 hour) for initial setup......well..... been out for dinner.... return home and nothing happen....went back out for movie.... return home and nothing happen.....the system is turning on and off and on and off..... still nothing on the screen and nothing new happening....Anybody can offer enlightenments?
