identities

Posted by admin on Nov 17th, 2006

I'm as frustrated as everyone else. I can't continue my business without being able to switch between identities. When a fix is offered, where can I find it? I have no need for security issues, as I'm the only user, but I need to use both home email and business email and keep these separate and easy to receive.

"Deb" No fix will be offered, they are gone from Windows Mail as far as Microsoft is concerned. However.........from a secret testing lab in the mountains, I've seen something that will do it for Windows Mail.

There is no reason why you can't keep business and home email separate even without identities. All it takes is two simple message filter rules:1. Where the message is from the Business account move it to the Business folder and stop processing more rules.2. Where the message is from the Home account move it to the Home folder and stop processing more rules. This isn't rocket science. ;)Gary VanderMolen "Deb"

I should have a replacement for the Identities feature available in the next few days. I'm still testing it, but it seems to be working well.Check here or here: www.oehelp.comsteve"Deb"

Message rules are fine, and no, it doesn't take rocket science. However!!!!If I'm not mistaken, when sending mail you have to remember to change the account you want to send the mail from. Example: I want to send a message regarding work. And I want to use my work email address. I have to switch from my personal email address to the work email address in the top where it states what account is being used. Otherwise they would get email from my personal email address, that I do NOT want passed out. And....if by accident I forgot to change it...well, that COULD be a disaster in waiting.I agree that MS took a step backwards. They put it in...now they're taking it back out???Yuck!Tracy"Gary VanderMolen"

"Steve Cochran" When he gets up to eat that will consist of the excercise for the day then he'll probably still want to go out in the rain....

No, he decided to excrete on the carpet instead. Given my enhanced olfactory sensitivity, I immediately rectified the issue. A 20 lb'er can put out quite a lot of stink. "DGuess"

Windows Mail (and OE before it) remembers which account was used to receive a particular message, and when do a Reply or Forward, the From address is automatically populated with the name and email address associated with that account. The only time it gets a little tricky is when you originate a *new* message. You have to remember to check what's on the From line (default account is used), and if it's not the correct one, click the From line so you can select another account 'identity.'Gary VanderMolen "Tracy"
