Hp 7100 with Vista and print server
Posted by admin on Aug 1st, 2006
Hi,We have a Windows 2003 print server. It shares an HP7100 using the HP manufacturer supplied driver. This printer maps to Windows XP without issue. When mapping to Windows Vista however, we get spooler crashes, and a general consensus that the driver is incompatible.HP haven't released an updated driver instead, they have indicated the driver is built into Vista. This does work if you install the printer locally to a network port and add the driver we DO see the printer working. This is terribly inconvenient when I need to add a new printer to 50 PCs, etc, and ordinarily would have it run from the logon script.I have tried various options, such as going to the Windows 2003 server and attempting to upgrade the driver, pointing it at \\vistapc\c$ \windows\inf but it doesn't seem to like the driver. How can I share this driver out?

the driver files in Vista are staged in \windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\prn*there is a different prn?????? directory for each vendor.there is also an ntprint.inf directory "jsmall@visinet.com.au" wrote:
