Hour of continuous HD activity

Posted by admin on Jul 26th, 2006

On a clean install of Vista Ultimate I have had a hour of continuous access to the System Volume Information directory by the System taskI seem to have 200GB of hidden System Volume information.Adding up all my directories (inc Windows and Program Files) give approx 60GB. Used space on HD 260GB!What is accessing the System Volume Information directory and how can I stop it.Secondly, how can I reclaim my hard disk? I see no options for deleting restore points (I have 17 after 1 week) or the amount of space used. If you turn off System Restore the space is reclaimed automatically. In terms of usage, I think it tops off at about 15%. If you're missing much more than that maybe something else is going on.There are some FAQs about all of that in the link that's on that System Protection tab in the System Properties dialog box.
