HELP! - annoying alert sound every 10 minutes.

Posted by admin on Mar 29th, 2007

About every 10 minutes or so, my computer makes an alert sound. No information windows pop up, nor any kind of message, and it happens even when no programs are running. The only thing I've found that matches up with the times I hear the sound is the following entry in the event viewer:..NET Runtime Optimization Service (clr_optimization_v2.0.50727_32) Service work was interrupted due to the following reason(s): USER_INTERRUPT (Mask: 0x04)Anyone know what's going on and how I can stop it?

The event viewer entry is also listed as error #1108 whenever it comes up."Schmactor" wrote:

I'm having the exact same problems that started just over 24 hrs ago, however, I have a 32 bit system.I wonder if it's a virus or a bug that was triggered by the recent Vista update? If I do nothing at all on the system lets say for example watching streamed video then it happens at intervals similar to every 10 minutes. Otherwise almost everything I click on sounds this annoying alert. rasheed21 rasheed21's Profile: vista64.net/forums/member.php?userid=2398 View this thread: vista64.net/forums/showthread.php?t=48273

I'm not sure if the same solution will work for you but here's what I saw and did. I opened *sound* in the *control panel* Under the *sounds *tab I noticed that sounds were assigned to odd events and were colored yellow. I also noticed that the sound theme was *Windows Default (modified)* I selected the *Windows Default* theme and selected *No* when asked to save the theme above and hitand *OK*The problem then went away!!!What caused it in the 1st place? I don't know. The only thing I remember doing before the problem occurred is double clicking the Intel Viiv System Tray Icon to view a message. This in turn brought up the Media Center which allowed me to view my message and exit. I think Vista did an Automatic Update that day there was also one today today. I should file a complaint with M$ but I'm too tired. I hope this problem doesn't come back when I reboot.Cheers, Rasheed rasheed21 rasheed21's Profile: vista64.net/forums/member.php?userid=2398 View this thread: vista64.net/forums/showthread.php?t=48273

Today for some odd reason the alerts came back. The fix is still the same but I'm just curious as to what triggered it in the 1st place. rasheed21
