Groups problems fix, Folders Workaround
Posted by admin on Jun 26th, 2007
For all you fellow losers out there that are running Vista Windows Mail and miss their Groups from Outlook or Outlook Express, I have a found a workaround after a week of trial and error. I hope Microsoft is listening when I say: This is an unforgivable error and a marketing blunder. My Outlook Express worked just fine. Why take it away from me and force me to use a new product that has horrific shortcomings in it? This has cost me days of my life to make it usable. PLEASE fix it right quickly! OK, I’m done venting. Now to the temporary workaround.1. Open Windows Explorer, go to C:\users\you\documents\Contacts 2. Make new sub folders for “friends”, “family”, “work”, etc. 3. Move or copy contacts into each of these sub folders from the main folder 4. For each folder (I’ll use family as an example): a. Open the folder b. Double click on the first contact listed to open it’s properties c. Go to the Home tab at the top of the screen d. Enter the word “family” in the street field e. Highlight “family” and hit ControlC to copy; click OK f. For each member of the Family Folder, repeat this process g. Use the ControlV to paste “family” and save typing 5. To use, open Windows Mail, create a new mail or forward an old one 6. Click the “TO” button; click “find” button; Look in = Windows Contacts 7. Put “family” in the address field; click the “find now” button 8. Select the desired emails (use your SHIFT and Control keys for shortcuts) 9. Click on the TO, CC or BCC buttons, click OK, and SEND 10. HINT: BCC stands for Blind Carbon Copy. PLEASE use it for most of your forwards. It stops all the recipients from seeing all of the address of any of the other recipients.Hope this helps. Pat Cremin, CCS

I must be missing something. Wouldn't it be easier to just create a contact group, then send the email message to the group? "Pat Cremin, CCS"

It would, if you always wanted to send the message to every member of the group. I almost always want to send to only some of the members of the group. For example, when one family member sends me an email and I want to forward it to some or most of the members of my family group, but not back to the originator. Pat Cremin, CCS "Nita Klew" wrote:

Wouldn't it be easier to use a contact group and copy and paste from TO to BCC then r/c and delete ones you don't want. No need to use a keyboard either. "Pat Cremin, CCS"

When a group is selected, does it populate the To (or CC or BCC) field with the individual addresses? If so, after you select the larger group (Family), simply delete the one address you don't want.Gary VanderMolen "Pat Cremin, CCS"
