Was CXV a typo here, or is that the actual filename extension? If it's the actual filename extension, change it to CSV. "Linda"

It was a CSV File. Still won't import. It asks for each column to be mapped. After mapping it says it saves it but there is no data in the Contact List. "Puppy Breath"

If there is an option not to map, try that. ______________________________Walter B waltblanch[at]tampabay[dot]rr[dot]com ______________________________ "Linda"

"Linda" Open the CSV (note you had corrected it) and see what is the first line. The following is the way Windows Mail's Contact are set up. Note, this is one line with the commas separating the fields. First Name,Last Name,Middle Name,Name,Nickname,Email Address,Home Street,Home City,Home Postal Code,Home State,Home Country/Region,Home Phone,Home Fax,Mobile Phone,Personal Web Page,Business Street,Business City,Business Postal Code,Business State,Business Country/Region,Business Web Page,Business Phone,Business Fax,Pager,Company,Job Title,Department,Office Location,NotesAfter the fields, you will see something likeBob, Bobm B, Bob Bob,,,,,,,,,,,,,,bob@bob.com,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and similar.A CSV file is just a text file you can open in Notepad. They're easy to convert as all you have to do is sort out the fields given (Earthlink) to the fields needed (Contacts).

I have tried everyhting and it just not work. It imports all the data but does not put it into the Contacts file. It says:Your Contacts already contain the entry "".Then it creates an UNKNOWN contact with no data in in. "DGuess"

Sounds like field mismatching. That is where the mapping becomes helpful but it's own a complete and not partical basis. Each fieldname listed is in a particular order. Each field data listed (first name, last name, etc) are in that order. If there is no data for that particular field, it is left empty. You may see sections of each one like ,,,,,,,, which means the fields are empty. Each of the fields match up to the data given. If more fields than data, it can either error or try to go to the nect line and it just gets worse at the end."Linda"

I finally was able to make it work. Apparently the Address Book in EarthLink Web Mail does not complete the "NAME" column which is used as the primary sort in Windows Vista Contacts list. I had to convert the the CSV file by checking Text Delimited radio button then checking Comma and unchecking Tab. Then all data arranges it self into columns. Keep all in General format. Once it opened I then copied the Last Name column data into the NAME column. MAKE SURE THERE IS DATA IN EACH ROW OF NAME COLUMN. I the saved as a CSV file. I the imported that file from the Contacts page and it worked perfectly.Interestingly not one person at EarthLink could help. Thanks to all who replied to my message!! "DGuess"

"Linda" They don't look. If it's not directly in front of their nose, they can't figure it out.
