Outlook needs to be installed. If you don't have it, you can download the Office demo, install it then do the import into it then into OE.Office 2007: office.microsoft.com/enus/products/HA101741481033.aspxI don't know if there is still the Office 2003 around or not now that 2007 is out.

I looked at the URL you provided above and didn't see a download link for getting standalone oldfashioned Outlook. Can you provide a direct link for me to download the standalone version of Outlook that I would need to accomplish what you've said above? Thanks in advance!

It's all Windows Mail now. That's what I was trying to tell you. I have Office 2007 already installed. OUTLOOK is no longer a part of that package. I guess you didn't know that?Any other suggestions?

What version of Office 2007 do you have? Outlook 2007 is in the version I have. I don't keep up with the 90 versions they're offering. In the past, it was with it. If it's not in the demo either, I can't help that. Find a copy of Outlook............

Put it on a friends computer, you can easily switch pst files for the short run to get the messages into OE.

But I did find it online at J&R Music World, I've ordered it, and it will be here Friday. So... I'm all set. I guess I am left wondering why didn't MS allow for porting of Microsoft Exchange PST files directly into Windows Mail? I guess the answer would be that most folks who've upgraded to Vista already have Outlook running. Well, for those of us who only had Exchange (and again, it's probably a tiny minority) this really is the only way to do it. Because File>import > messages> message type MS Exchange, will give you this: Message cannot be imported from the MAPI client. Yup.Thanks to all who helped out. And the dude who complained to me about putting the question in multiple newsgroups all I can tell you is that I found 4 places where I could ask the question. 4 separate and distinct Newgroups where I posted the question. 4 places that I felt made sense for this question. Got responses in 2. Got to the final answer right here, in this one. So... maybe you aggregate messages from multiple newsgroups somehow and this confused you? Don't know what your complaint was, really, and (actually) I didn't care. I'm glad that the folks who didn't take the time to "complain" about such trivialities were actually quite helpful. Again, thanks for your time. This may help some other person who only has MS Exchange PST files understand what they have to do to migrate them in Windows Mail on their Vista machines. Even it helps only ONE other person, I say it was worth it. And to the Haterdude: I wish you a life that's filled with Peace, Joy, and Fulfillment of Purpose. And if that can't happen for you right at this very minute, know that it IS possible. WAY possible. I did accomplish what has been suggested, downed a trial version of Office 2007, (some of the beta versions did not inculde outlook, but the current downloads do), and used the import command to bring the .pst into the outlook environment. worked without a hitch."jlwn777@att.net" wrote:

Well, with the changes to Office, there had been a demo of Office 2003. Still had to have a key they would give you. Also, Have heard of some borrowing someone else's or even a copy from the office's Offce, install Outlook only, and not activated it of course. Did the export from/import to thing and uninstalled it. Accomplished what they wanted. If they have wanted Office on there they would have left it on or whatever.I didn't do the Office 2007 beta so what all they've changed along with the "this version has this and that version has that" BS, I don't know what the thinking is behind it all. If Office 2007 is like Vista, then all versions are on the DVD, you just have to have the upgrade code to get it to install features.

So... I would have had to uninstall my current version, load the demo, do the xfer, then uninstall the demo, and then reload my copy of Office 2007. The easier solution (for me) was to simply purchase standalone Outlook 2007 from the J&R online site for about 120 clams including shipping. It will be delivered to my home on Monday. Glad you were able to make use of the other people's advice, though. The real question remains: why didn't MS allow for the porting of MS Exchange messages directly into Windows Mail? And I may have already answered that because most of the people doing the porting probably already had Outlook. But it's still annoying!Anyway, thanks again to everyone who tried to help.

Because they want you to fork out the 120 clams.steve
