Applications Stop working and Close in Vista
Posted by admin on Mar 22nd, 2007
I have purchased a new Dell Desktop with vista and office 2007 OEM versions. Excel, Word and Messenge all work for less than a minute then close with an error message saying they have stopped working and windows is colecting more information. I cant seem to find any downloads that can help this. The error and performacne management sections of Visita suggest no solutions. Can anyone help?

"Eatmorebeef" Well this is a perfectly reasonable combination, so it shouldn't cause this much problems. If the computer is brand new, and your software came with it (which I believe it has if it's OEM versions of Office, right?) then I would be looking to them to sort this out; they have sold you something which does not work. I'm suggesting this because if it worked this badly out of the box you may have a hardware fault or an issue caused by something Dell themselves have installed, and they would therefore be in a much better place to diagnose and fix this than anyone else.

Just a few days ago my 2 month old Sager 5760 laptop (Vista Premium 64bit OS) started to close applications automatically. I get errors such as the "application has stopped working please close program". Applications range from IE7, Microsoft Office and Outlook, Skype, MSN Messenger, NOD32, and Media Player to name a few. Dr. Watson also shuts down and I get a WerFault.exe error as well. I do however, remain connected to the internet (somehow I still receive my RSS feeds) ; I just have no way to access anything dealing with the internet. I have three other computers with XP as the OS and no problems with them. My computers are on a Linksys wireless network and again no problems with other computers. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.howardsmash30:mad: howardsmash30

Restarting the machine fixes the problem until whateverit is happens again. (My best guess is that it has something to do with Vista going off into "sleep" mode automatically rather than by request. Since yesterday, I told it never to shut down at all and have not seen the problem since so far.) (2) Word 97 worked fine yesterday, but today it crashes when I close it EXCEPT that if I run it as administrator, it does not crash. Huh?On the other hand, I have seen no Internet problems at all, and can't say anything useful about your.John H. McCloskey
