AOE II expansion pack w/vista
Posted by admin on Dec 23rd, 2006
I have installed vista home premium which works fine. The conquerors (AOE) expansion does not run correctly very poor graphics. I am using the MS supplied driver with my x1300 visiontech card. If I try the newer drivers vista doesnt run except in the basic mode. I've uninstalled and installed to no avail. Any suggestions?

The graphics with the Microsoft drivers is always going to be substandard. You need to use the ATI 7.1 or 7.2 drivers. If you're OS is refusing to accept those drivers, then you've got a bigger problem, then the game not working.I'm a little confused by what you mean, runs in Basic mode. Do you mean Safe Mode or Aero doesn't work ?All I can say is, it should work and it's a problem if it doesn't. I've ran both the7.1 and 7.2s and I haven't run across any problems yet. "Tuner"

Thanks Dale By basic mode I mean w/o the aero interface. I struggled w/ the Visiontech drivers, but the video performance was 1.0. When I reinstalled the MS drivers the Aero interface worked and graphics performance climbed to 3.0. AOE kings works alright at 800x600 res. but when the res. is changed the graphics drop to an unacceptable level. The card has plenty of guts but the driver seems to be the problem."Dale M. Though sometimes you loose some special functions, I pretty much use the drivers straight from ATI. Looking at the website, looks like they rolled the drivers into 1 big download with both 32 and 64bit support. At least they are the 7.2sBut I would still recommend going to ati.amd.com/support/driver.html and using the base reference drivers and seeing if they work first."Tuner"

If he just said he struggled getting the Visiontek drivers to work, why would you point him to the visiontek drivers ?"Ludwig"

I think his spelling was visiontech and not visiontek, and I was wondering if he couldn't find the correct drivers. Does that answer your question? "Ludwig"

I bought a Diamond Radeon X1300 PCI video card so that I could run Aero. I installed Vista and upgraded the graphics driver from (?). I find that performance degrades and I get warnings. My rating is a 2.0. Where should I get the optimal driver for running Aero? Thanks guys!
