Age of Empires 2: Conquerors Cannot host lan game

Posted by admin on Jan 2nd, 2007

I have one dell laptop running Vista home premium and a number of XP computers. The vista computer can run AOEII:C on XPSP2 compatibility mode and join any multiplayer game hosted by an XP computer. The problem is that it cannot host a multiplayer game. On Lan TCP/IP, when I click create game it goes to the "Creating Game wait 15 sec..." screen, then goes back to the main multiplayer menu after a couple seconds. No error messages or anything. I have directx 10 and the 1.0c patch installed.

Those were both disabled when I first tried it, and I disabled them again but still get the same results. When I try to restore a saved game (originally hosted by another computer) it acts the same, put provides an error message."Unable to create game. For TCP/IP games you may need to connect to the internet before starting Age of Empires 2."Is the create game function unable to connect to the network? Or is there maybe a temp file that it needs permission to create? Originally, this vista computer could not join a custom map game because the map could not be saved to the random folder, but messing with "read only" settings seemed to fix that. Thanks, ~ Ruskets"Serdar KALIN" wrote:

Yeah, the colors messed on me a lot, especially at first. It has been a constant struggle to keep them working. Some of the compatibility settings in properties>compatibility tab helped, like disabling desktop composition, but don't check the "run in 256 color" mode. Sometimes Alttabbing out of the game once it has started and then Alttabbing back in worked to fix the colors. It seemed like everytime I changed something, the colors would fix, but then Vista would find a way to mess them up again. Good luck!* Definitely use XPSP2 compatibility mode or lower."matts547" wrote:
