Fresh Vista Enterprise install. I am a Student Adminstrator with Admin rights to a college specific OU. I have disabled IPv6 and set the Netbios to TCP/IP but I still get the aforementioned error when attemtping to join the domain. It's been a long day, and this is a dificult subject to blindly search. Any ideas? Advice? I'm new to Active Directory, but I am capable and competent.

That's usually a DNS problem. The computer you are trying to join to the domain must be set to use a domain DNS server and no other DNS servers. Kerry Brown Microsoft MVP Shell/User vistahelp.ca "bv"

Wild goose chase. The problem was due to some incompatibilities with older hardware in Vista's new network stack.Using an administrative command prompt:netsh in tcp set global autotuninglevel=disableThis solved the problem for me, unless you can give a reason for not issuing that command. That command is necessary with some old networking hardware. Kerry Brown Microsoft MVP Shell/User vistahelp.ca "bv"
